About The Position

The University of St. Thomas is seeking a full-time, 10-month Teaching Professor in Theology for the Dougherty Family College. This is a non-tenure-track, renewable position. The faculty member will teach an in-person, 100-level Theology course, serve as an academic advisor and mentor to a cohort of students, and teach an online course during January and every other summer. The role requires expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Faculty are expected to teach three sections of theology per semester, provide intensive mentoring and advising, and engage in service to the college and university. The position starts August 1, 2027.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent degree) in theology or a closely related discipline.
  • At least one year of college teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching theology courses.
  • Expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to foster successful learning communities reflective of students' diverse cultures.
  • Ability to prompt students to use their culturally embedded knowledge for meaningful learning that affirms social identities and connections while promoting high academic performance.
  • Background in critical and/or culturally responsive pedagogies.
  • Recognition of one's own cultural experiences, identities, and manifestation of privilege, and the dynamics these evoke.
  • Embrace self-reflection, value excellence through educational equity, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing culturally responsive learning.
  • Highly motivated, innovative, and creative educator.
  • Ability to provide intensive mentoring and advising to students.
  • Faculty mentors are expected to be on campus and available to students at least four days a week 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

  • A one-page statement presenting the candidate’s philosophy of developing and leading initiatives to support a culturally responsive curriculum (discuss culturally responsive pedagogy in the statement) and evidence of teaching excellence with underserved students (e.g., student feedback on your teaching).

Responsibilities

  • Teach an in-person, 100-level Theology course (e.g., Foundations of the Christian Tradition).
  • Serve as academic advisor and mentor to a cohort of students.
  • Teach an online course during January and every other summer (additional compensation provided).
  • Teach three sections of theology per semester (Fall and Spring).
  • Provide intensive mentoring and advising to students (approximately twenty-five advisees, with individual sessions and cohort leadership advisory groups).
  • Provide service to the college and university, including committee work.
  • Work with students during the August summer enrichment program.
  • Perform other responsibilities related to college program development and assessment.
