About The Position

Moody Bible Institute is seeking a ministry-minded educator to join our Undergraduate School as an Assistant Professor of Applied Theology on our Chicago campus. This is an opportunity for an experienced pastoral leader and gifted teacher to help students connect biblical truth with real-world ministry while preparing them for faithful and effective service in the church and beyond. Moody Bible Institute is a Christ-centered higher education and media ministry dedicated to equipping people with the truth of God's Word. For more than a century, Moody has prepared students for Christian service through biblically grounded education, spiritual formation, and practical ministry training. Our faculty play a vital role in that mission by combining academic excellence with mentorship, discipleship, and meaningful student engagement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Christian Ministry, Practical Theology, Ministry Leadership, Divinity, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated pastoral or church-based ministry experience.
  • Ability to teach and prepare students for ministry leadership.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Pastoral Theology, Preaching, Spiritual Formation, Ministry Leadership, Care for the Church.
  • Commitment to Christ-centered student development through teaching, mentoring, and advising.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and instructional skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural intelligence and ability to engage effectively across cultural contexts.
  • Commitment to Moody Bible Institute's mission, doctrinal beliefs, and educational philosophy.

Nice To Haves

  • Earned doctorate in Christian Ministry, Practical Theology, Ministry Leadership, or a related discipline.
  • Five or more years of senior or lead pastoral ministry experience.
  • Master of Divinity with significant ministry experience and progress toward a doctoral degree.
  • Previous college, university, seminary, or graduate-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with curriculum development, internship oversight, or academic leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Applied Theology and related ministry disciplines.
  • Prepare students for effective pastoral and ministry leadership.
  • Integrate biblical teaching, theological reflection, practical ministry application, and cultural awareness in the classroom.
  • Create engaging learning environments that encourage thoughtful application of biblical truth.
  • Advise and mentor students in their academic, spiritual, and vocational development.
  • Collaborate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, committee, and institutional activities.
  • Contribute to internship oversight and other academic responsibilities as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing scholarship, professional development, and research.
  • Demonstrate cultural intelligence and effective engagement across diverse backgrounds.
  • Support Moody's mission and model Christ-centered service within the academic community.
