About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications Teaching Laboratory Manager, College of Engineering [R0151172]. ROLE of the POSITION Managing all aspects of teaching laboratories, including assisting faculty to upgrade laboratory exercises; training teaching assistants on how to run experiments; maintaining existing equipment; developing and updating equipment maintenance plan; keeping a database of equipment property and their location; assisting faculty with laboratory supplies and equipment procurement; designing and building experimental set up for teaching; assisting the teaching assistants to set-up laboratory experiments; attend laboratory sessions; writing standard operating procedures (SOP) for new and existing equipment; revising laboratory manual /course documentation; training students and teaching assistants in laboratory safety; performing safety inspections; implementing safety protocols; preparing and supporting outreach activities on campus and off campus; assisting students with senior design projects; assisting student organization chapters with projects and competitions (e.g. ASCE chapter canoe and steel bridge competition). This person works closely with the research laboratory manager, sharing duties as needs arise and time permit. PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT The CEEC Department has 17 full-time faculty members in 6 technical areas. Three of these faculty members have received the prestigious NSF CAREER award. Current enrollment of the department includes about 600 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. The department has fully equipped professional facilities with computing, electronic, fabricating, testing, printing, and word processing. High speed computing facilities are available at the National Supercomputing Center for Energy and the Environment hosted in the College of Engineering. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related fields from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • 2 years of experience
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with fabrication, welding, electrical, and plumbing
  • Prior teaching laboratory experience
  • Demonstrated independent initiative to lead and complete projects.
  • Knowledge/experience with Laboratory safety
  • Demonstrated mentoring or coaching experience
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Experience with developing a functional equipment maintenance and replacement plan
  • Familiarity with the installation and operation of laboratory equipment
  • Positive Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including international students
  • Experience in specifying and procuring laboratory equipment and supplies
