About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Chemical Engineering, specifically the Laird research group, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher. This role will support data analysis, application development, and research objectives focused on advancing capabilities in optimization-based conceptual design for new process development and improved process understanding. The position also involves the development of open-source tools for training and optimization of machine learning surrogates and interaction with faculty members, as well as industrial and federal project sponsors. Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities for this role, requiring effective interaction with diverse internal and external partners with a high level of integrity.

Requirements

Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering or related field required.
1-3 years of experience in process systems engineering and/or bioprocess modeling.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong creativity.
Ability to work in a collaborative research environment.
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

Advancing capabilities in optimization-based conceptual design for new process development and improved process understanding.
Development of open-source tools for training and optimization of machine learning surrogates.
Interacting with multiple faculty members within the department, as well as industrial and federal project sponsors.
Other duties as assigned.
