About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Chemical Engineering, specifically the Laird research group, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher. This role will support data analysis, application development, and research objectives focused on advancing capabilities in optimization-based conceptual design for new process development and improved process understanding. The position also involves the development of open-source tools for training and optimization of machine learning surrogates and interaction with faculty members, as well as industrial and federal project sponsors. Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering or related field required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in process systems engineering and/or bioprocess modeling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong creativity.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative research environment.
  • Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Advancing capabilities in optimization-based conceptual design for new process development and improved process understanding.
  • Development of open-source tools for training and optimization of machine learning surrogates.
  • Interacting with multiple faculty members within the department, as well as industrial and federal project sponsors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
