About The Position

This is a PRN position with hours scheduled in advance based on the Teaching Kitchen class schedule. Shifts are on an as-needed basis. Currently, classes are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays afternoons/evenings. Weekend days may also be available as the program expands.

  • Able to move 50 pounds.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

Responsibilities

  • Performs cleaning tasks such as dishwashing, pot washing, and general sanitation and cleaning of kitchen equipment in accordance with department policies and Board of Health Regulations.
  • Uses proper cleaning products and follows their specific directions and uses.
  • Is aware of MSDS and how to obtain information when concerns arise and follows Board of Health Regulations.
  • Runs temperature strips through the dish machine to ensure proper temperature.
  • Stores all washed items (china, flatware, pots, and pans, etc.) to meet the operational needs of the specific areas.
  • Washes and sanitizes pots and pans with the proper chemicals and in accordance with the Board of Health Regulations.
  • Assists in the delivery of patient care by conducting various support responsibilities and retrieving patient trays.
  • Adheres to the area’s schedule and adapts to changes in the daily worksheet to meet workload demands.
  • Pulls floor stock from the floor stock sheets.
  • Pulls and/or makes nourishments prescribed by the patient’s physician or the dietitian.
  • Replenishes all areas with food or non-food items to ensure proper stock or display supply.
  • Pulls and cleans the doctor’s lounge.
  • Ensures that areas are ready for meal service.
  • Uses proper serving utensils.
  • Keeps the steam table area clean and neat for patient service.
  • Prepares, wraps, and dates various items to ensure freshness.
  • Restocks all items necessary for tray line needs.
  • Practices proper sanitation procedures (i.e., gloves, hairnets/bouffants).
  • Sanitation procedures are performed according to department policies in compliance with Board of Health Regulations.
  • Stores all serving ware, china, flatware, pots, and pans to meet operational needs.
  • Requisitions and stores supplies from the hospital and department storerooms to meet operational needs.
  • Removes and disposes of all garbage from areas of the department following department policies and Board of Health Regulations to provide a sanitary work environment.
  • Cleans work areas, counters, tables, and equipment in performing daily and special cleaning assignments in accordance with department policies and Board of Health Regulations.
  • Washes and sanitizes pots and pans in accordance with department policies and Board of Health Regulations.
  • Participates in QA/CQI documentation process.
  • Takes temperatures to ensure proper food temperatures are achieved.
  • Documents temperatures of all steam table items.
  • Participates in area huddles, inservices, training, orientation, and meetings.
  • Attends huddles, inservices, and training sessions to keep current with specific procedures, Accrediting Organization requirements, and changes within the department and/or hospital.
  • Completes annual CBTs.
  • Attends orientation and area-specific meetings to keep current on area-specific changes or concerns and for communication exchange with peers and management.
  • Continues to learn ways to which CQI can be applied to our areas to ensure customer satisfaction.
