About The Position

The Department of Kinesiology at Rongxiang Xu College of Health & Human Services is seeking graduate students for Teaching Associate positions for the 2026-27 Academic Year. Teaching Associates are typically responsible for providing classroom instruction, teaching sections of various Kinesiology courses, and potentially other beginning courses in the department. Appointments are conditional based on enrollment and budget, and the department reserves the right to select the most qualified candidate and assign courses. Course offerings may vary due to staff and curriculum changes, with no guarantee of employment from semester to semester.

Requirements

  • Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Kinesiology.
  • Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
  • Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Kinesiology, in good academic standing.
  • Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree.
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment.
  • Ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactorily completed background check.
  • Disclosure of any final administrative or judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Teach laboratory sections or physical activity courses for which they are qualified.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the lab coordinator for laboratory sections.
  • Attend the lecture associated with the lab they are teaching and/or help the instructor in the proctoring of exams.
  • Show evidence of qualifications and/or experience in teaching the topic of the course for physical activity courses.
  • Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester.
  • Instruct and manage in-person class meetings.
  • Create and actively maintain online learning classroom (Canvas).
  • Create or implement course design and assignment sequence.
  • Prepare course materials and classroom activities.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Assess student performance, including grading assignments and assigning grades.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Tutoring students.
