About The Position

The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking graduate students for Teaching Associate positions for the 2026-27 Academic Year. Teaching Associates are typically responsible for providing classroom instruction and will teach sections of various courses. Opportunities may exist to teach other beginning courses in the Kinesiology Department. Appointments are conditional based on enrollment and budget, and the department reserves the right to assign TAs to appropriate courses. Employment from semester to semester is not guaranteed due to potential staff and curriculum changes. The anticipated appointment dates are Fall 2026 (August 21, 2026 – December 23, 2026) and Spring 2027 (January 21, 2027 – May 29, 2027). Students can work up to 20 hours per week, not exceeding 7.5 units per semester.

Requirements

  • Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Kinesiology.
  • Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
  • Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Kinesiology, in good academic standing.
  • Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree.
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed.
  • Disclosure of any final administrative or judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of faculty, teach laboratory sections or physical activity courses for which they are qualified.
  • For laboratory sections, attend weekly meetings with the lab coordinator, and may be expected to attend the lecture associated with the lab or help the instructor in proctoring exams.
  • For physical activity courses, show evidence of qualifications and/or experience in teaching the topic of the course.
  • Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester.
  • Instruct and manage in-person class meetings.
  • Create and actively maintain online learning classrooms (Canvas).
  • Create or implement course design and assignment sequence.
  • Prepare course materials and classroom activities.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Assess student performance, including grading assignments and assigning grades.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Tutoring students.

  • Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Salary Range: $3,245 - $7,598 per month.
