About The Position

The Department of Art at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking graduate students for Teaching Associate positions for the 2026-27 academic year. Teaching Associates are typically responsible for providing classroom instruction, primarily in sections of lower-division Art courses. There may be opportunities to teach other beginning courses. These are conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget, and the department reserves the right to assign TAs to appropriate courses. Courses offered may vary, and employment from semester to semester is not guaranteed.

Requirements

• Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Art.
• Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
• Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Art, in good academic standing.
• Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree.
• Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment.
• Ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
• Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Background check completion.
• Disclosure of any final administrative or judicial decision determining that the applicant has committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before an offer).

Responsibilities

• Teach Art sections under the supervision of faculty.
• Instruct and manage classrooms.
• Create or implement course design and assignment sequences.
• Prepare course materials and classroom activities.
• Administer examinations.
• Assess student performance, including giving course grades.
• Maintain office hours.
• Tutor students.
