About The Position

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking graduate students for Teaching Associate positions for the Academic Year. Teaching Associates are typically responsible for providing classroom instruction, including teaching sections of various courses in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Appointments are conditional based on enrollment and budget, and the department reserves the right to assign TAs to appropriate courses. Course offerings may vary, and employment from semester to semester is not guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
  • Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
  • Work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural, and inclusive setting.
  • Admitted to the Master Program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in good academic standing.
  • Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree.
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment.
  • Ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactorily complete a background check.
  • Disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture/activity/laboratory sections under faculty supervision.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the lab coordinator.
  • Attend the lecture associated with the lab being taught.
  • Assist the instructor in proctoring exams.
  • Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester.
  • Instruct and manage the classroom.
  • Create or implement course design and assignment sequence.
  • Prepare course materials and classroom activities.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Assess student performance, including giving course grades.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Tutoring students.
