About The Position

The Department of Computer Science at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking graduate students for Teaching Associate positions for the 2026-27 Academic Year. Teaching Associates are typically responsible for providing classroom instruction, including teaching sections of various courses in the Computer Science Department. These positions are conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget, and the department reserves the right to assign TAs to appropriate courses. Employment from semester to semester is not guaranteed due to potential staff and curriculum changes. The appointment dates are Fall 2026 (August 21, 2026 – December 23, 2026) and Spring 2027 (January 21, 2027 – May 29, 2027). Students can work up to 20 hours per week, not exceeding 7.5 units per semester.

Requirements

  • Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Computer Science.
  • Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
  • Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Computer Science, in good academic standing.
  • Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree.
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment.
  • Ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactorily complete a background check.
  • Disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer).

Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture/activity/laboratory sections as assigned by the department, typically activity or laboratory sections.
  • Attend weekly meetings with faculty.
  • Grade assignments.
  • Potentially lecture and hold office hours.
  • Assist the instructor in proctoring exams.
  • Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester.
  • Instruct and manage classroom.
  • Create or implement course design and assignment sequence.
  • Prepare course materials and classroom activities.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Assess student performance, including giving course grades.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Tutoring students.
