About The Position

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking graduate students for Teaching Associate positions for the 2026-27 academic year. Teaching Associates are typically responsible for providing classroom instruction, including teaching sections of various courses in the department. Opportunities may arise to teach other beginning courses. Appointments are conditional based on enrollment and budget, and the department reserves the right to select the most qualified candidate and assign them to appropriate courses. Employment is not guaranteed from semester to semester due to potential staff and curriculum changes. The anticipated appointment dates are Fall 2026 (August 21, 2026 – December 23, 2026) and Spring 2027 (January 21, 2027 – May 29, 2027). Students can work up to 20 hours per week, not exceeding 7.5 units per semester.

Requirements

  • Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
  • Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
  • Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
  • In good academic standing.
  • Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree.
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment.
  • Ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed.
  • Must sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct if reaching the final stages of the application process.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of faculty, teach lecture/activity/laboratory sections.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the lab coordinator.
  • May be expected to attend the lecture associated with the lab they are teaching.
  • May be expected to help the instructor in the proctoring of exams.
  • Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester.
  • Instruct and manage classroom.
  • Create or implement course design and assignment sequence.
  • Prepare course materials and classroom activities.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Assess student performance, including giving course grades.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Tutoring students.
