About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant position within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group at Brock University. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications the employee holds. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s role will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparing seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Solid academic foundation in Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer – demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate coursework.
  • Analytical and numerical problem-solving skills – ability to break down complex concepts such as energy balances, entropy, conduction, convection, and radiation for students.
  • Experience with computational tools – proficiency in MATLAB, EES, or simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for solving thermodynamics and heat transfer problems.
  • Strong communication and teaching ability – capable of clearly explaining theoretical principles and assisting students with assignments or tutorials.
  • Laboratory and experimental background – hands-on experience with heat exchangers, thermal systems, and data acquisition relevant to thermofluids experiments.
