About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant position in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) for the course ECON 1P95 (Using Big Data to Solve Economic and Social Problems) for the Winter D3 term. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 80% in the course
  • Applicants must be at least a fourth-year student currently enrolled in an honours program offered by the Department of Economics and in good academic standing or have already completed an equivalent degree.
  • The successful applicant must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students
  • Be punctual in attending classes and regular in-person meetings on campus during normal working hours
  • Be able to meet appropriate deadlines
