About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant in the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group for the course TOUR 3Q97 - Events Management. The compensation for Teaching Assistant positions is paid according to the employee's qualifications. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties required will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time, such as preparing seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Tourism or have completed an Honours Degree in Tourism or equivalent
  • Applicant must have an average of 80% or higher in 2 undergraduate degree courses in the area of Tourism Management or an equivalent undergraduate course area
  • Applicant must have strong knowledge and past course experience in the area of Event Management or equivalent
  • Computer literacy, familiarity with evaluation of electronically submitted assignments, and a working knowledge of Sakai
  • Ability to perform the various duties of the position
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Must be dependable and have strong time management skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication
  • Academic integrity and professionalism

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful undergraduate teaching and marking experience is an asset
  • Work experience in the tourism industry is an asset
