About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CRIM 2P33 - Law and Social Justice course for the Winter term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator roles is based on the employee's qualifications, with different rates for those holding a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree compared to those who do not. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered.
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.
  • In your cover letter, explain how you meet each of the four listed qualifications. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete application.
  • It is the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate how his/her degree and training are equivalent.
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course and grade summary from your student selfservice at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
  • Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor, in consultation with the selection committee.
  • Applicants must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
