About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CRIM 3Q94 course during the Winter D3-2 term. This position is part of CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group). The compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on the employee's qualifications. Undergraduate rate is $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026) for those without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree. Graduate rate is $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026) for those with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of environmental thought and nonhuman issues, especially as they relate to sociology and social justice, is preferable.
  • Students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered if vacancies remain.
