About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the TOUR 1P92 - Tourism Industry Sectors course for the Winter D3-1 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on the employee's qualifications, with rates differing for those holding a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree compared to those who do not. Additional duties beyond the standard TA role will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have or be enrolled in a Masters or higher degree in Tourism, Business Management or Sustainability
  • Applicant must have an average of 80% or higher in 2 undergraduate degree courses in the area of Tourism Management or an equivalent undergraduate course area
  • Applicant must have strong knowledge in the area of Tourism Management
  • Demonstrated knowledge in EXCEL and Brock University's Sakai-Based Learning Management System (LMS) or equivalent
  • Ability to perform the various duties of the position
  • Available during normal office hours for group meetings
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Must be dependable and have strong time management skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful teaching and marking experience especially at the first-year level is an asset
  • Work experience in the Tourism industry is an asset
  • Previous experience in coordinating and managing people is an asset
  • Evidence of on-going professional development is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and lead tutorials and facilitate discussion
  • Mark and grade course work (including presentations, participation, chapter summaries, essays, on-line student postings, mid-term tests, and final exams) and provide constructive feedback
  • Enter grades into EXCEL spreadsheets and Sakai
  • Proctor mid-term tests and final exams
  • Attend all scheduled seminar meetings with the course instructor and/or course coordinator
  • Provide students with your Brock email address for course-related questions
  • Be available to meet with students if a meeting is requested about the course
  • Be familiar with the textbook
  • Meet with course instructor or course coordinator as required
