About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the GEOG 2P07 - Introduction to Geospatial Technologies course for the Fall D2-1 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour, effective September 1, 2026. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking, grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Geography or equivalent.
  • Completion of 4 full credits in Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Geography courses completed (or equivalent).
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent) or previous experience teaching geomatics.
  • Knowledge of geomatics, experience with geomatics software (including ENVI version 5.0 and ArcGIS version 10.1, and/or QGIS).
  • Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience in geomatics or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 13 or more credits) in Geography or equivalent will be considered if vacancies remain.
