About The Position

The Teaching Assistant (TA) will assist in weekly cadaveric-based laboratory activities for ANAT 315, Clinical Human Musculoskeletal Anatomy. This involves identifying anatomical structures using skeletal and pre-dissected cadaveric specimens (prosections). The TA will actively participate in cadaveric dissection, coordinate undergraduate course assistants, enforce laboratory rules, and provide weekly laboratory instruction to groups of students. Responsibilities also include assisting in the setup, implementation, and grading of course assessments, and coordinating duties with undergraduate course assistants in liaison with the course instructor and Anatomy Lab support staff. The TA must be available for at least one lab section of the ANAT 315 course.

Requirements

  • Having taken and passed ANAT 315, or another course equivalent is required.
  • Prior study in gross anatomy related to musculoskeletal anatomy is required.
  • Laboratory experience with cadaver specimens is required.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills when supervising undergraduate students.
  • Exhibit proven coordination and management skills.
  • Proven organizational skills with attention to details and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills in English (spoken and written) are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior dissection experience is an asset.
  • Holding a past course assistant or TA position in ANAT 315/314 is a strong asset.
  • Other prior teaching experience in dissection- or prosection-based cadaveric laboratories is an additional asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in weekly cadaveric-based laboratory activities.
  • Identify anatomical structures using skeletal and pre-dissected cadaveric specimens (prosections).
  • Actively participate in the cadaveric dissection component of ANAT 315.
  • Familiarize themselves with content topics prior to each lab session.
  • Answer questions from undergraduate course assistants.
  • Coordinate undergraduate course assistants.
  • Reinforce laboratory rules and code of conduct in the lab.
  • Provide weekly laboratory instruction, working with groups of students to illustrate gross anatomy of the musculoskeletal system.
  • Assist in the setup, implementation, and grading of course assessments.
  • Coordinate and assign duties to undergraduate course assistants in liaison with the course instructor and Anatomy Lab support staff.
  • Be available for at least one lab section of the ANAT 315 course.
