About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant for the ESL 105 F100 course during the Fall 2026 semester. The course is an integrated four-skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) class that includes grammar review, vocabulary development, study skills, use of IT resources, learning strategies, and intercultural competence. The approach is student-centered, interactive, and task-based, with an emphasis on formative evaluation. This course is offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person instruction.

Requirements

• Capacity to facilitate group work through a student-centered, task-based learning approach.
• Capacity to explain the English verb system, sentence structure, and academic vocabulary to second language learners.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Interview may be required.

Nice To Haves

• Previous ESL training and classroom experience is an asset.
• Classroom multimedia experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and delivery of lessons from a framework provided by teachers.
• Attend group meetings and report on class activities.
