About The Position

Teaching Artist Assistants will support Musical Theatre faculty in providing rigorous and inclusive early-level musical theatre training in dance, singing, song interpretation, and ensemble work to 12-14 year old collaborators. These collaborators will be working towards a culminating public share. This role is part of the Berklee Student Employment program, offering opportunities to work part-time on campus to help meet living expenses. The program has over 900 positions ranging from 10 to 15 hours of work per week, with potential for project-based temporary employment, contributing to professional and educational growth.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program (or pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester if only working in the summer).
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (first-semester students are exempt until completion of their first semester).
  • Federal Work Study students may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Comfortable with MT dance styles (especially jazz).
  • Comfortable with MT song styles in performance throughout the canon.
  • Works well and enjoys teaching pre-teens and teens.
  • Sight reading, beginning music theory competency and basic piano for vocal practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching pedagogy.
  • Experience working with pre-teens and teens.
  • A strong interest to work with this specialized population in the future.
  • Capacity to play a musical instrument (any) to accompany a performance.
  • Songwriting/Arranging skills.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, managing, and handing out materials.
  • Chaperoning and coaching small groups of students.
  • Providing active support and role modeling in dance and choral classes as well as rehearsals.
  • Organizing and facilitating Brown Bag Conversations about contemporary issues in the industry appropriate for teen audience discussion.
