About The Position
The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for teaching positions. This posting round is open to permanent contract teachers, second-year probationary teachers, teachers with recall status, and external applicants. The SRCE, established on April 1, 2018, is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, focused on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. With approximately 1,166 employees, the SRCE operates 20 schools and 14 pre-primary program locations, serving around 5,948 students and 375 pre-primary children in the 2024-2025 school year. The SRCE's jurisdiction covers Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties in northeastern Nova Scotia. Hired or recalled teachers may need to participate in New Teacher training. The deadline for applications is June 15, 2026, with an effective date of August 1, 2026. The specific worksite for this position is Dr John Hugh Gillis Regional.
Requirements
- Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia.
- Bachelor of Science, Major/Minor in Chemistry.
- Major/Minor in French or attended Immersion in the Public School system.
- Content Area Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition.
- Excellent classroom and student management skills.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning.
- Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies.
- Knowledge of inter-disciplinary planning is a requirement.
- High level of proficiency in teaching in an Immersion setting.
- High level of proficiency in both written and spoken French is required (approved through the SRCE French proficiency testing).
- Application must include at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor.
- All employees must provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment.
