About The Position

The Roger Bacon Academy is seeking outstanding K-5 teachers for its award-winning Classical Charter Schools of Wilmington in North Carolina. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Education and a passion for inspiring young minds. The school utilizes a research-based Direct Instruction curriculum focused on foundational skills in reading, writing, math, science, music, and art, drawing from classical traditions. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education is required with a valid teaching certificate from North Carolina in the area for which the candidate is applying.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in another subject area with an approved plan for Lateral Entry with an Initial Teacher License.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry 20 lbs and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Algebra, and in the subject specialty departments are highly desirable and will command a salary increment commensurate with the additional work.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all professional development and training sessions.
  • Take charge of the classroom, maintaining it in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Receive all students enthusiastically and have tasks designated for waiting periods.
  • Teach and administer rules for student behavior during transitions, instruction, and out-of-class activities.
  • Review the schedule, pacing, and instructional goals for each subject period.
  • Begin instruction punctually, using Classical Direct Instruction as the primary method, and instruct students professionally with rewards for desired behaviors.
  • End instruction on schedule and transition students quickly and smoothly.
  • Grade all student work honestly and promptly, providing feedback for improvement and tutoring students with difficulties.
  • Follow prescribed assessments, benchmarking, and pacing guides for tracking student progress and promptly enter student data.
  • Seek guidance from fellow teachers, Lead Teacher, and Academic Coach when encountering difficulties in achieving instructional goals.
  • Implement and practice skills and techniques as prescribed after observations by Academic Coaches, Deans, BT Coordinator, or Headmasters.
  • Keep parents informed about their child's academic progress and solicit parental involvement.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in transition monitoring, drop-off, and pick-up.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and maintain order fairly.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and evaluate their job performance.
  • Attend grade level and staff meetings, serve on committees, and carry out non-instructional duties.
  • Perform related duties as required by the Headmaster or Assistant Headmaster.
  • Produce instructional data reports in accordance with the calendar from the grade’s Lead Teacher and on-site Academic Coaches.
