About The Position

This position involves planning and implementing a project-based learning unit in one of several enrichment areas for students in grades 5-12 during the summer. The role requires participation in training, collaboration with site coordinators, and the use of differentiated instruction to meet diverse student needs. The teacher will foster social and emotional learning, develop students' interpersonal skills, and maintain classroom management for up to 20 students. Responsibilities also include administering surveys, managing records, planning field trips, and engaging families. The position is contingent on funding and student enrollment.

Requirements

  • Licensed Teacher by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – Required
  • CPR and First Aid Certified- Required per 21st CCLC Grants

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a project-based learning unit in one of the following enrichments: Farm to Table (Nettle), Fishing and Ecosystems (Nettle), Outdoor Art and Gardening (Nettle), Outdoor Recreation & Healthy Living (Nettle), or Rock Band (Haverhill High School).
  • Participate in pre-program training, including an asynchronous online orientation and an All-Staff Meeting via Google Meet.
  • Plan challenging enrichment activities that will enable all students to progress toward meeting intended grant program outcomes using Project-Based Learning or Service Learning methodologies in collaboration with the Site Coordinator.
  • Submit Program Planning Template and Supply List to Site Coordinator prior to start of program/session.
  • Use appropriate practices, including tiered instruction and scaffolds, to accommodate differences in learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness, including those of students with disabilities and Multilingual Learners.
  • Incorporate Social and Emotional practice in daily activities to create learning experiences that guide students to identify their strengths, interests, and needs; ask for support when appropriate; take academic risks; and challenge themselves to learn.
  • Develop students’ interpersonal, group, and communication skills and provide opportunities for students to learn in groups with diverse peers.
  • Clearly communicate and consistently enforce specific standards for student work, effort, and behavior.
  • Supervise up to 20 students in your classroom.
  • Complete and Submit a Pre and Post Survey of Academic and Youth Outcomes (SAYO) survey for each student in the class.
  • Maintain enrollment and attendance records.
  • Plan for and accompany students on field trips.
  • Work with the Coordinators to plan and implement Family Engagement initiatives related to your unit.
  • Return all leftover supplies to Burnham School on the last day of the program.
  • Responsible for other duties as indicated by directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
  • Must work the required hours during the summer school days.
