About The Position

This position is a Summer Education Internship Coordinator for the Discovery Club/Access 21 Stand Alone Program. The role involves assisting with student recruitment and retention for education internships, conducting interest assessments, and counseling participants in choosing appropriate placements. The coordinator will also help recruit Mentor Teachers, conduct classes on workplace readiness and classroom management for interns, and provide training for Mentor Teachers. Responsibilities include developing work plans with students and Mentor Teachers, observing interns at their placements, holding weekly group meetings to discuss experiences and address issues, and meeting regularly with the Internship Team, interns, and Mentor Teachers. The coordinator will facilitate performance reviews, implement interventions for student needs, maintain files, compile data for funder reports, and counsel students on post-graduation plans.

Requirements

  • Licensed Teacher by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – Required
  • Experience in Internship Programs
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Such alternatives to the aforementioned qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools

  • Experience in Access 21 – Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Education Internship student recruitment and retention.
  • Conduct interest assessment.
  • Counsel participants in choosing an appropriate Education Internship placement.
  • Help recruit a Mentor Teacher placement for each internship student.
  • Conduct classes in workplace readiness and classroom management skills for Education Interns.
  • Provide training/expectations for the Mentor Teachers.
  • Working with the student and Mentor Teacher, develop a work plan for each Education Intern.
  • Visit and observe Education Interns while they are at their placements.
  • Hold weekly group meetings with Education Interns to discuss experiences and work through any issues.
  • Meet with Internship Team, Education Interns & Mentor Teachers regularly.
  • Facilitate the process for midpoint and closing Performance Reviews.
  • Facilitate appropriate interventions to address student needs.
  • Maintain files and compile data for reports to funder.
  • Counsel students on plans after graduation.
