About The Position

Strides Therapy & Educational Services is seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join their team supporting students within HCPS. The TVI will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments across educational settings. This position requires strong communication skills, flexibility, compassion, and a passion for helping students reach their full potential. As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) at Strides Therapy & Educational Services, you will play a vital role in supporting students with visual impairments and blindness across elementary through secondary school settings. Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary educational team, your primary responsibility will be to provide individualized direct and consultative vision services that support students' academic access, independence, and success within the school environment. This is an itinerant position serving multiple school sites. Full-time candidates are strongly preferred; however, qualified part-time candidates will also be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
  • Valid and current Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) certification/licensure
  • Ability to manage an itinerant caseload across multiple school locations
  • Strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills
  • Dedication to ongoing professional growth and development

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with school-aged students with visual impairments preferred
  • Braille proficiency strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct vision instruction and consultative services to students with visual impairments, including support with Braille instruction, assistive technology, compensatory skills, functional vision needs, academic accessibility, and independent living and organizational skills.
  • Work collaboratively with Special Educators, General Education Teachers, Orientation & Mobility Specialists, School Psychologists, SLPs, OTs, PTs, and related service providers to support student success and ensure appropriate educational accommodations and modifications.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals, maintain accurate documentation, and adjust instructional strategies as needed to support student growth and achievement.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, families, school staff, and district personnel regarding student progress, services, accommodations, and recommendations.
  • Stay current with best practices, assistive technology, Braille instruction methods, and educational strategies related to students with visual impairments.
