About The Position

The Teacher of the Deaf plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in various educational settings. The role creates a flexible program and learning environment that offers specialized instruction, helping students with special needs benefit from the general education curriculum with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other necessary resources. The position is based at First Children School in Plainfield, New Jersey, a New Jersey Department of Education-approved private special education school serving students from PreK through high school. The school serves students with multiple disabilities, including medical fragility, developmental, intellectual, or physical disabilities, deafness or hard of hearing, and visual impairment. This full-time, exempt position is part of the instructional team and reports to the School Principal.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or Early Childhood Education.
New Jersey Teacher of the Deaf certification.
At least two years of teaching experience with children.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

Develop lesson plans that reflect students’ individual IEP needs, goals, and objectives.
Establish and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
Train classroom assistants to provide one-to-one instruction.
Use appropriate curricula, materials, and behavioral techniques.
Attend annual reviews and contribute appropriate goals and objectives to IEPs.
Attend training, supervision sessions, and staff meetings as directed by the principal and in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
