About The Position

The middle school teacher focuses on the special needs of middle school students by actively involving them in the learning process, using a variety of teaching techniques and learning strategies appropriate to their needs. The role emphasizes displaying empathy, rapport, and personal interaction with students, providing a positive and inviting classroom atmosphere, and fulfilling the guidance and counseling role of a teacher. The position allows for a variety of learning styles and employs various teaching styles, including modeling assignments. Reinforcing good behavior over punishing poor behavior, preparing thoroughly for objective-based lessons, and giving frequent feedback are key aspects. The teacher should utilize a sense of humor, cooperate with other professionals, and communicate clearly and constructively with students, parents, and staff. A thorough knowledge of the developmental characteristics of middle school students and their effect on physical, socio-emotional, and cognitive realms is essential, as is maintaining a strong subject matter background and referring lesson application to other areas. The teacher will also perform other professional tasks as assigned by the principal or superintendent.

Requirements

  • Kentucky Teaching Certificate for Middle School Secondary Certification if endorsements for subject taught, or grades 1-8 certification
  • Such additional qualifications as the superintendent and/or Board may find appropriate and acceptable

  • Utilizing a sense of humor
  • Cooperating with other professionals
  • Communicating clearly and constructively with students, parents, and staff
  • Displaying a thorough knowledge of the developmental characteristics of boys and girls in the middle school and its effect on physical, soci-emotional, and cognitive realms
  • Maintaining a strong subject matter background and referring lesson application to other areas than his own
  • Performs such other professional tasks (within reason) as may be assigned by the principal or the superintendent
