About The Position

This is a full-time professorial position with tenure equivalent, focusing on Multicultural Education and Teaching Multilingual Learners. The role involves teaching undergraduate and master's level courses, mentoring students in research and teaching, and advising graduate candidates. The position also requires significant engagement in research activities and publication, as well as demonstrating leadership within the department, school, and university. The successful candidate will be expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of Brigham Young University, adhering to its Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards. Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree with specialization in multicultural education, ESL/TESOL, or related field (degree must be completed by the start date)
  • Successful K-12 public school classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated potential for research productivity
  • Demonstrated ability/interest to partner with local schools
  • Knowledge of national trends in multicultural education and/or ESL/TESOL
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All faculty are required to abide by the university’s Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.
  • Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrine of the affiliated church.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses related to multicultural education and/or multilingual education at the undergraduate level, and related courses at the masters level
  • Mentor undergraduate and masters students in research and teaching
  • Advise masters and doctoral degree candidates
  • Engage in high levels of research activity and publication
  • Demonstrate a pattern of leadership at the department, school, and university levels
  • Fulfill committee assignments and other citizenship activities inside the university, community, and profession
