About The Position

This is a 1.0 FTE non-continuing contract Business/Marketing teaching position at Mariner High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves planning, preparing, and delivering quality instructional programs based on state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction to students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs in inclusive settings. The teacher will be responsible for recognizing individual student learning and cultural needs, developing strategies to address them, facilitating family involvement, implementing culturally responsive instruction, using data to assess progress and modify instruction, communicating progress to various audiences, fostering a safe and positive learning environment, maintaining records, participating in meetings, engaging in continuing education, directing classified staff, and fulfilling legal responsibilities. Requirements

  • Valid Washington state CTE teaching certificate with a Business and Marketing Education endorsement required.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices for a wide range of student needs and abilities including culturally responsive teaching.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
  • Ability to effectively address a wide range of academic and social needs including at-risk, cultural diversity, English language learners, and special education students.
  • Skills in effective planning and implementation of lessons based upon state standards, district curriculum and student needs.
  • Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
  • Knowledge and understanding of school philosophy.
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse learners providing access and opportunities for all students.
  • Ability to effectively meet developmental needs of elementary school students.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate positively and effectively with parents, students, staff and administrators.
  • Skills and ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with diverse people, including racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competencies, and respect and value for all cultural heritages.
  • Ability to identify and address personal, cultural, and institutional bias.

  • Valid Washington State certification with appropriate endorsement(s).

  • Experience working directly with people of diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds, preferred.
  • Additional endorsements in ELL, special education and/or reading.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction using state standards, subject matter content, district curriculum and student needs.
  • Recognize individual student learning and cultural needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Facilitate family involvement and engagement.
  • Implement effective teaching practices including culturally responsive instruction and curriculum for the purpose of facilitating achievement for each student.
  • Use multiple student data elements for the purpose of assessing student progress, modifying instruction, and improving student learning.
  • Communicate student progress to multiple audiences in a timely manner.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Maintain and submit information/records including student progress.
  • Participate in various meetings for the purpose of implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Engage in continuing education studies which insures professional growth.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
  • Fulfill legal responsibilities, implement and comply with federal and state laws, District policies and other guiding principles, and State Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform other duties of similar scope and function.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
