Teacher Assistant - Part Time
About The Position
Somerset Hills YMCA is seeking qualified Teacher Assistants to assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum. The YMCA curriculum encourages learning through exploration and discovery and promotes the development of a positive self-image. Teacher Assistants help with arts and crafts projects, conduct circle time, assist during lunch and snacks, and support diapering and potty training where applicable. They model positive social interactions and language and use positive class management techniques and strategies. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- At least one year of experience working with young children in a group setting.
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children by closely supervising all activities.
- Assist the Head Teacher in creating and leading developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
- Work as a supportive team member.
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom by reporting or removing potential hazards and setting up spaces and materials to support child learning.
- Maintain accurate program documentation, including incident, accident, and behavior reports; attendance and sign-in/sign-out sheets; development and growth forms; and records of eating, sleeping, and areas of concern.
- Participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
- Perform other activities and duties that address the ongoing health and well-being of staff and members.
- Follow and maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.
- Assist with arts and crafts projects, conduct circle time, and help during lunch, snacks, diapering, and potty training as applicable.
- Model positive social interactions and language and implement positive class management techniques and strategies.
