About The Position

The Teacher 1 provides instruction for the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development program at the Southeastern Correctional Institution. The role involves identifying instructional needs, preparing lesson plans that include individualized training, administering tests, evaluating inmates, and providing direction. The teacher also maintains discipline and security in the instructional area, participates in education and staff meetings and in-service training, and completes records, reports, inventory, and supply orders. Other education-related and assigned duties may be requested by education administrators.

Requirements

• Possess a baccalaureate degree and an Adult Educator four-year permit, or be eligible to receive a four-year permit from the Ohio Department of Education.
• A current Teacher Certificate appropriate to the grade level assigned requires a baccalaureate degree or less.

Responsibilities

• Develop lesson plans to address instructional needs, including individualized training for assignments.
• Provide instruction for the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development program.
• Administer necessary tests.
• Evaluate inmates and provide necessary direction.
• Maintain discipline and/or security of the instructional area.
• Attend education meetings, unit staff meetings, and in-service training.
• Prepare required records and reports.
• Maintain inventory and order needed supplies and materials.
• Perform other education-related or assigned duties as requested by education administrators.
