About The Position

The Tax Intern is the team member who is responsible for the preparation of stand-alone business tax returns, financial statement related tax returns, individual tax returns, tax research, and other related tax projects. In this role, the Tax Intern will be charged with utilizing basic research skills and working with tax software applications to complete various tax returns for review.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited university, with a declared major in Accounting.
  • Must have completed the following courses: Intermediate Accounting II and Federal Income Tax.
  • Major GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data and draw logical conclusions.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including, proficient in use of Excel and MS Office.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Requires an organized, independent thinker who has ability to be a part of a team and demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Must be able to pass a drug, background screen, and motor vehicle record check (if one is required per the position).

Responsibilities

  • Works on various tax preparation projects (federal, state, sales & use) under direct supervision of a superior (depending on the tax return, the supervisor could be a Tax Associate, Senior Tax Associate, or Manager).
  • Prepares stand-alone work papers following the Company policies and procedures.
  • Prepares typical business and personal income tax returns.
  • Brings unusual/significant accounting and tax related questions to the supervisor.
  • Performs any other work assigned by a supervisor(s).
  • Becomes familiar with the Company's policies, procedures, manuals, forms, and relevant software.
  • Prepares tax returns (business and personal) as assigned by supervisors.
  • Prepares working trial balance, adjusting journal entries and tax accruals for stand-alone tax returns.
  • May maintain records property and equipment, and calculate depreciation and amortization.
  • Prepares and reconciles account schedules as required.
  • Completes tax returns for some financial statement related returns.
  • Performs research projects in the area of taxation, including payroll and sales tax.
  • Communicates with colleagues regarding information needed or clarification of issues.
