About The Position

The Department of Revenue, Tax Division is recruiting for a Tax Auditor 1/2/3 in Anchorage. This position promotes compliance with Alaska's tax laws through audits, compliance projects, and maintenance of tax programs. Conducts audits in various tax programs, including but not limited to, Commercial Passenger Vessel Excise Tax, Mining License Tax, Vehicle Rental Tax, and Fisheries-Related Taxes. Supports and collaborates with the Charitable Gaming and Excise Tax Group by aligning processes, sharing data, and assisting with joint projects and audits. Provides taxpayer education and conducts other activities that help taxpayers comply with Alaska's tax laws. The work ensures consistent, fair application of Alaska’s excise tax laws while supporting accurate revenue collection and effective tax program administration.

Requirements

  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience in accounting, finance, tax, auditing, examining, preparing, reviewing, or reconciling financial accounts and data.
  • Competency in Auditing: Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.
  • Competency in Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, tax, auditing, examining, preparing, reviewing, or reconciling financial accounts and data.
  • Competency in Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with State and/or Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Competency in Tax Law: Knowledge of accounting and tax law for individuals, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and/or corporations.
  • Competency in Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, tax, auditing, examining, preparing, reviewing, or reconciling financial accounts and data.
