Requirements

  • Bachelor or higher in accounting, auditing, business management, public administration, mathematics, finance or a related field AND five (5) years or more of experience at a professional level in tax examination, accounting, auditing, or business administration or related field AND one (1) or more years in a supervisory role.
  • OR Six (6) or more years’ experience in tax examination/preparation, accounting, auditing or business administration AND two (2) or more years in a supervisory role.
  • OR Three (3) years or more of experience as a Tax Field Auditor IV or Tax Auditor IV; or Four (4) years or more of experience as a Tax Examiner VI or Tax Analyst V with the State Of Vermont Department Of Taxes.
  • Candidates must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check to be eligible for this position, which will involve access to sensitive federal tax information.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analyzing taxpayer returns
  • Preparing assessments and adjustments to support accurate compliance
  • Communicating with taxpayers and their representatives
  • Participating in appeals and settlement discussions
  • Performing advanced audit tasks with independence and high competency
  • Mentoring, supervising, and directing junior level auditors or tax analysts
  • Conducting on site audits when appropriate
