Requirements

• Successful completion of the Revenue Tax Auditor Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of professional accounting or auditing experience and a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 15 college credits in accounting, tax, or auditing; or Eligibility to sit for the Certified Public Accountant examination.
• Must meet the PA residency requirement.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Must pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment due to access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and compliance with IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075). This includes criminal history reports, fingerprint-based federal records check, PA State Police clearance, check of local law enforcement agencies, and citizenship/residency verification.

Responsibilities

• Review taxpayer reporting, audit history, and instructions to plan each audit.
• Conduct on-site visits to observe operations and gather information.
• Examine financial documents to verify accurate tax reporting.
• Prepare schedules, work papers, and written narratives that explain findings.
• Provide explanations of procedures, findings, and appeal rights to taxpayers.
• Guide and support auditors during group audit assignments.
