About The Position

The Targeted Academic Specialist provides direct supervision, instruction, and support to the Targeted Academic Teacher working with participants in an elementary-school after-school program. The role provides individual and group tutoring to a cohort of second-grade students and works with the teacher on lesson planning, curriculum implementation, testing, and remediation. The specialist implements a professionally developed literacy-based curriculum and supports students’ academic and social development. The position also develops relationships with children and families, plans and leads special projects and activities, and helps ensure orderly program operations. The incumbent is expected to work in person or in a hybrid arrangement as determined by departmental needs; these requirements may be reviewed and adjusted as organizational needs change.

Requirements

Experience working with children and families.
Experience working as a New York City public school teacher.

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group tutoring in reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills to students in an elementary-school after-school program.
Work with the Targeted Academic Teacher on lesson planning, curriculum implementation, testing, and remediation for a cohort of second-grade students.
Implement a professionally developed literacy-based curriculum.
Develop relationships with children and their families.
Design, plan, and lead special projects and activities for school-aged participants.
Teach, supervise, and provide interventions to students.
Be punctual, responsible, positive, and encouraging toward children.
Assist with program operations, including supervising children during supper and ensuring equipment is signed out, cleaned, and returned.
Analyze data, report results, and maintain an intervention service tracker.
Supervise the Targeted Academics Teacher.
