About The Position

DC Scholars Public Charter School is seeking a dedicated and people-centered Talent & HR Coordinator to join our team and support the daily functions of our Talent and Human Resources department. This is a role for someone who grows fast, operates with urgency and joy, and is energized by helping others — all while keeping every detail exactly right. The Talent & HR Coordinator manages the daily functions of the HR department, including payroll administration, benefits coordination, compliance, onboarding and offboarding, and frontline staff support. They serve as a trusted, visible presence for staff — a reliable, mission-driven partner who holds the highest standards of confidentiality and care. The Talent & HR Coordinator reports to the Director, Talent and HR and works closely with the Finance Team, school leadership, and all staff to ensure the DC Scholars team is well-supported from day one through every stage of their employment.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of HR, operations, or benefits experience, ideally in a school or nonprofit environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • Experience administering payroll
  • Experience supporting full-cycle onboarding and offboarding processes, including coordination across teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing an HR inbox or frontline employee support function with strong follow-through
  • Familiarity with federal, DC-area employment law, and HR compliance requirements
  • Experience with benefits administration and Open Enrollment support
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; experience with HRIS platforms required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the HR Inbox, providing fast and efficient responses to staff inquiries and taking ownership of all front-end issues — even when resolution requires coordination across departments.
  • Anticipate staff needs and ensure flawless follow-up throughout all HR interactions, delivering a DCS-branded, people-first customer service experience.
  • Coordinate Talent/HR events including onboarding sessions, exit interviews, benefit meetings, and staff appreciation activities.
  • Greet and welcome candidates and new hires; maintain visibility across the school and elevate recurring staff or HR-related needs for problem-solving.
  • Prepare employment verification letters and support offer letter coordination.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll in Paycom; track and submit stipend payments; serve as a day-to-day administrator of Paycom HRIS.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records — processing all employment changes, salary updates, garnishments, terminations, and withholding requests promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including filing reports and logs to conform with all audits.
  • Maintain and update digital employee files (contracts, I-9s, certifications, evaluations, etc.).
  • Send the weekly leave report to the leadership team; partner with Finance on timely review and payment of all HR vendor billing.
  • Send pre-boarding communications via Paycom, SLACK, and other systems; draft and coordinate Day 1 schedules in collaboration with hiring managers.
  • Prepare and ship welcome kits; coordinate tech setup, badge creation, and access requests for all new hires.
  • Track onboarding completion across departments and escalate any gaps or issues proactively.
  • Assist in employee offboarding, communicate employee changes across departments (data, finance, academics), and coordinate one-off onboarding as needed.
  • Coordinate New Staff Orientation logistics and social events; support the Director in designing the overall employee experience vision.
  • Coordinate with vendors to support staff benefits access and troubleshooting throughout the year.
  • Assist the Director in planning for Open Enrollment; support the creation, distribution, and collection of Total Rewards Statements.
  • Administer leave, FMLA, and timesheets; ensure accurate and compliant leave tracking and accommodations.
  • Coordinate career fairs: register for events, prepare materials, recruit internal staff to attend, and handle follow-up communications.
  • Assist in the design and marketing of recruitment promotional materials and social media content to support talent acquisition efforts.
  • Generate and maintain social media content that showcases the DC Scholars community and culture.
