About The Position
Raytheon’s Space & Airborne (SAS) Center within Systems Engineering & Test Capabilities is seeking a Systems Reliability Engineer 1 to support reliability and failure investigation work products. The Life Cycle Engineering SAS Department supports troubleshooting, resolving system-level failures, and driving reliability improvements across radar hardware and software programs. Life Cycle Engineering optimizes product supportability, effectiveness, and efficiency throughout the lifecycle, from design through production, sustainment, and field operations, helping ensure products remain dependable, operable, safe, and affordable. The role is onsite in El Segundo, California. After comprehensive on-the-job training, the employee will join a team supporting Systems Engineering troubleshooting activities across the product development lifecycle and using data analysis to inform engineering activities and decisions. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required. An active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Active and existing DoD Secret security clearance required after day one.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with data analysis and automation tools such as Microsoft Office, MATLAB, or Python.
- Exposure to military platforms for weapons conveyance, such as ships, ground combat systems, fixed-wing aircraft, or rotary-wing aircraft.
- Experience working with failure tracking systems.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis methods such as 5 Whys or Fishbone.
- Knowledge of reliability concepts such as MTBF, Weibull analysis, and FMEA/FMECA.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, JMP, or similar.
- Knowledge of quality standards such as MIL-HDBK-217, MIL-HDBK-338, MIL-HDBK-1547, or similar.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze failure data to identify trends, root causes, and reliability issues.
- Lead or support root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are defined.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues.
- Ensure timely closure of failure reports and proper documentation of findings.
- Monitor reliability metrics and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability and performance.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and relevant industry regulations.
- Support FRACAS activities by documenting failures and tracking corrective actions.
- Assist with sustainment engineering tasks such as depot return reviews or repair coordination.
- Assist in troubleshooting hardware or software issues, support qualification and test activities, and contribute to basic root-cause analysis using structured methods.
