Systems Integration Engineer III

Daimler Truck•Portland, OR
•Hybrid

About The Position

Daimler Truck North America’s Autonomous Technology Group (ATG) develops solutions for SAE Level 4 autonomous driving within defined Operational Design Domains. The ATG Powernet team develops and maintains the low-voltage vehicle architecture—including power generation, distribution, conversion, and energy storage—for the Freightliner Cascadia platform. This role leads software development for the architecture, primarily for the Intelligent Power Distribution Modules (IPDMs), which help maintain vehicle health, control loads for the autonomous driver, and support base-level motion control in an ASIL context. The Systems Integration Engineer III serves as the software component lead for IPDMs, developing and maintaining software component models, coordinating with suppliers and global Daimler partners, and supporting specifications, integration, verification, troubleshooting, and release-related activities. The role works with the Daimler and Vector toolchains and supports simulation, SIL/HIL testing, network analysis, and regression evidence. Approved AI-assisted engineering tools may support development workflows, but safety-critical decisions and deliverables must receive engineer review and comply with DTNA processes. The position is based in Portland, Oregon, with a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office and one day remote. Applicants must be able to work in or relocate to Portland; relocation assistance is not available. Visa sponsorship is not available, and applicants must already be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States. Final candidates must complete a criminal background check and may be required to complete a pre-employment drug screen.

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical principles and circuit design.
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage systems techniques and best practices.
  • Experience interpreting industry standards, such as ISO, SAE, VDA, and IEEE, into component- or system-level requirements.
  • Experience in component development and supplier coordination.
  • Experience using Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANape, and CANoe) to analyze and verify ECU/network behavior, including CAN/LIN.
  • Experience with AUTOSAR standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience using approved AI assistants, such as Claude, for software-development workflows, with understanding of confidentiality and engineering sign-off expectations.
  • Knowledge of CAN networks and experience with system and integration test benches.
  • Direct automotive design experience in low-voltage power systems.
  • Experience with or certification in ISO 26262 for low-voltage power systems.
  • Experience collaborating globally in a multicultural organization.
  • Experience in detailed root-cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Experience with technical documentation and specification analysis.
  • Experience with Diagnostic Link tools.
  • Experience with DTNA UDS (Unified Diagnostics) protocols.
  • Experience with DTNA cybersecurity standards.
  • Experience with CAN/LIN communication protocols.
  • Experience with DTNA VMM release processes.
  • Experience with Simulink for embedded controls design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software component development for Intelligent Power Distribution Modules (IPDMs).
  • Perform model-based software development and follow applicable processes.
  • Review supplier technical concepts and coordinate supplier development.
  • Create and maintain software component models using MATLAB Simulink.
  • Support software development specifications and related documentation.
  • Run technical meetings with Daimler and suppliers.
  • Track bugs and defects and troubleshoot software issues.
  • Act as a global liaison between ATG Powernet and partners including DTICI, Functional Safety, Architecture, Product Validation, and the TT/S LV Powernet group.
  • Support component specification activities as needed.
  • Use the Daimler toolchain and Vector tools, including CANoe, CANalyzer, and CANape, to integrate software component models and support verification activities.
  • Support simulation, SIL/HIL test execution, network analysis, and regression evidence in coordination with supplier interfaces and Plan 1 delivery schedules.
  • Create and support VMM change requests for software models and development activities.
  • Work with ATG Powernet feature owners to define and implement software requirements aligned with customer requests.
  • Ensure software development follows lifecycle practices for requirements, design, implementation/modeling, verification/validation, defect management, and release documentation for safety-relevant functions.
  • Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools to support requirements comprehension, documentation, code/model review, and troubleshooting, while ensuring engineer review of final technical decisions, safety-critical outputs, and deliverables.
