The Surface Radars & Sensors Center seeks talented students who are interested in ocean engineering. Our Portsmouth, RI, team primarily supports programs in the naval undersea and naval surface domains including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration. Our engineers perform underwater acoustics analysis and tracking, develop and manage system requirements, integrate hardware and software, develop test plans and procedures, debug and evaluate system functions and interfaces, and verify system requirements in support of final sell-off to the customer. We put our systems together, exercise them in the lab or in the field, measure and analyze performance, and make sure our products work the first time and every time. Every day is a different set of challenges to overcome. You'll be expected to collaborate across disciplines and partner to implement solutions. In this role, you'll get to know a little bit about every aspect of the system and have a direct hand in making it all work together supporting teams of engineers engaged in integration and test efforts. This position is an onsite role in Portsmouth, RI.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 30 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience with troubleshooting technical issues with electronics in an academic or internship setting, including the use of common commercial test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • DoD Clearance: Secret
  • Active and existing security clearance required on day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with tools, such as MATLAB or Python, for data analysis and automation
  • Experience with or exposure to naval undersea and/or naval surface platforms

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis, such as acoustics, radar and sonar data, using tools such as MATLAB
  • Perform requirements analysis, development and management
  • Support planning and execution of Integration, Verification, or Test activities
  • Prepare and present results in reports and briefings to internal or external stakeholders
