About The Position

The Space Ground Systems Engineering team solves mathematical, physical, and algorithmic problems at the core of next-generation missile defense and fire control systems. The team addresses battle-management challenges such as fusing real-time sensor streams into track data, optimizing weapon-target assignments under uncertainty, and providing high-confidence fire-control schedules to warfighters. The Systems Engineer - Missile Defense will bridge systems engineering, applied physics, and mathematical optimization to solve complex missile defense problems. The role includes designing track-fusion pipelines, developing threat-assignment algorithms, and conducting sensitivity analyses across complex architectures. The engineer will apply mathematics, physics, and algorithm development using Python or C++, with an understanding of sensor data and battle-management workflows. The position is based in Huntsville, Alabama, or Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Requirements

  • Currently possess and be able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong mastery of applied mathematics, physics, and programming.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C++ for mathematical modeling and algorithm development, including the ability to write robust code to solve mathematical problems.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, and MATLAB.
  • Exposure to missile defense concepts, radar or sensor processing, flight dynamics, TOM, threat intelligence, discrimination algorithms, sensor-tracking algorithms, kill assessment, integrating algorithms into operational systems, or fire-control systems such as GMD, NGI, SM3, Aegis, IBCS, C2BMC, or SBI.

Nice To Haves

  • Top Secret / SCI eligibility preferred.
