About The Position

Arcfield is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for the Merigold contract to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support for the architecture, integration, and evolution of enterprise messaging capabilities in cloud and hybrid mission environments. The role advises the Government on transitioning and integrating messaging services across legacy, cloud, and emerging enterprise architectures. It evaluates requirements, interfaces, data exchanges, service dependencies, and implementation approaches to help ensure messaging capabilities are secure, resilient, interoperable, and aligned with mission needs. The engineer works with development teams, System Program Offices, architects, cybersecurity professionals, and mission stakeholders to identify integration challenges and guide solutions from concept through operational implementation. The role combines systems engineering with knowledge of cloud-based messaging, distributed architectures, and modern software delivery practices, and includes preparing technical assessments and recommendations for senior Government stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline with 10–12 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 8–10 years; or a PhD with 5–7 years; equivalent relevant professional experience is also accepted.
  • Significant systems engineering experience supporting complex software or cloud-based systems.
  • Strong background in cloud architectures, enterprise messaging, distributed systems, or service-based architectures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Agile development methodologies, modern software delivery practices, and system integration and transition processes.
  • Experience developing, managing, and tracing technical requirements and system interfaces.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and authoritatively as a senior Government technical advisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting cloud capabilities and migrations within the Intelligence Community or Department of Defense.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise messaging technologies, APIs, event-driven architectures, or data exchange services such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Hands-on experience with DevSecOps environments, CI/CD pipelines, and automated delivery.
  • Familiarity with cloud security principles, Zero Trust architecture, containerization, and microservices.
  • Experience modernizing or migrating legacy mission capabilities into cloud-native environments.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the architecture, design, and modernization of enterprise messaging services.
  • Develop transition and migration plans for moving legacy messaging capabilities into scalable cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Translate mission needs into technical artifacts, including system requirements, Agile features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Champion DevSecOps and Digital Engineering practices.
  • Analyze API interfaces, data exchanges, and service dependencies across interconnected systems.
  • Evaluate the effects of software releases, infrastructure updates, and new capabilities on the broader system ecosystem.
  • Assess proposed solutions for scalability, resiliency, interoperability, and security; identify integration risks, technical debt, and schedule dependencies; and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate technical work among System Program Offices, enterprise architects, software developers, cybersecurity teams, and mission users.
  • Participate in Agile planning, integration events, testing, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Develop executive-level technical assessments, architecture recommendations, and transition strategies.
