About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration's Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) program. The role supports modernization of aviation weather capabilities for the National Airspace System, serving as an engineering integration point among weather systems, engineering teams, FAA stakeholders, subcontractors, and implementation partners. The position supports the Alaska Weather Needs Package, particularly integration and modernization of Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS), Visual Weather Observation Systems (VWOS), and Weather Camera Systems (WCAM). The work includes keeping technical requirements, interfaces, engineering activities, schedules, risks, and deliverables aligned throughout the project lifecycle. The position is remote and requires travel to Washington, D.C. The engineer provides systems engineering and NAS integration support; coordinates multidisciplinary engineering execution and project controls; supports AWOS site surveys, design, engineering packages, and implementation; and facilitates coordination across internal organizations, FAA representatives, subcontractors, and installation partners. The role also supports technical reviews, project planning, procurement coordination, implementation strategies, migration planning, and transition activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum experience based on education: 12 years with a BS/BA, 10 years with an MS/MA, 7 years with a Ph.D., 14 years with an AS, or 16 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technical projects involving engineering, infrastructure modernization, telecommunications, aviation systems, or other mission-critical environments.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple organizations.
  • Experience managing technical schedules, risks, action items, deliverables, and customer communications.
  • Experience developing engineering documentation, technical reports, implementation plans, requirements packages, or acquisition documentation.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in dynamic and complex environments.
  • Experience working directly with Government customers and senior leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting the FAA, Department of Transportation, National Airspace System, or other aviation modernization programs.
  • Experience with aviation weather systems, including AWOS, ASOS, VWOS, WCAM, weather sensors, environmental monitoring systems, or related airport infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with FAA siting requirements, Airport Layout Plans, NAS interface standards, data flows, and systems integration requirements.
  • Experience coordinating remote field site surveys, engineering assessments, installation activities, or site readiness efforts.
  • Knowledge of airport communications, networking, power infrastructure, environmental systems, and other site readiness considerations.
  • Familiarity with FAA engineering, quality assurance, configuration management, safety, and acquisition processes.
  • Experience supporting system implementation, testing, integration, verification, validation, or operational transition.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar project management and collaboration tools.
  • Agile experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support for aviation weather modernization and integration of weather observation systems with the National Airspace System.
  • Analyze and coordinate system interfaces, dependencies, and data flows between weather observation systems and interconnected NAS systems.
  • Maintain visibility into system interactions, technical dependencies, risks, assumptions, and decisions.
  • Support requirements development, analysis, traceability, and verification.
  • Identify technical issues and coordinate with engineering organizations to resolve them.
  • Support technical reviews, program briefings, status updates, and stakeholder communications.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities and ensure technical products, analyses, drawings, reports, and implementation packages are accurate and on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, action-item trackers, risk registers, technical deliverable schedules, and other project-management tools.
  • Track technical issues, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and decisions through resolution.
  • Maintain traceability among requirements, site survey findings, engineering recommendations, project decisions, and final deliverables.
  • Coordinate technical discussions and working sessions with FAA representatives, engineering teams, subcontractors, installation partners, and internal organizations.
  • Support preparation, quality review, and delivery of technical reports, engineering recommendations, requirements documentation, and implementation packages.
  • Assist with implementation strategies, migration planning, and technical transition activities.
  • Recommend process improvements to engineering execution, documentation quality, and schedule performance.
  • Support AWOS engineering activities, including pre-site surveys, site investigations, engineering drawings, and technical transmittals.
  • Coordinate development and review of AWOS engineering packages for alignment with FAA siting requirements, Airport Layout Plans, and applicable modular scalability standards.
  • Coordinate engineering design deliverables such as vicinity maps, project location plans, site development drawings, grading and storm drainage plans, and equipment pad designs.
  • Ensure site plans reflect existing and proposed conditions, electrical service and trenching requirements, and known concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate engineering activities related to AWOS-C equipment and site-specific implementation requirements.
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and resolve site, design, interface, and implementation constraints.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Safety, Cybersecurity, Contracts, Logistics, Procurement, and Program Controls organizations.
  • Support procurement planning by identifying long-lead materials, equipment dependencies, and implementation constraints.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and support technical decision-making among internal teams, FAA stakeholders, subcontractors, and installation partners.
  • Communicate project status, technical issues, risks, dependencies, and required decisions clearly.
  • Support engineering activities from planning and design through implementation and transition.
