About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the technical operation, reliability, and continued evolution of Marketing Cloud Engagement (MCE). The role partners with Marketing, Product, Data, and other technical teams to support MCE operations. It is a hands-on technical operations and implementation position focused on translating business needs into scalable technical solutions, troubleshooting production issues, and improving customer-facing messaging operations. The engineer co-owns capabilities including Preference Center, Global Footer, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Data Extension management, audience and segmentation logic, and Mobile Push. The successful candidate will become a trusted technical owner for MCE operations and help make journey execution, data workflows, preference management, reusable email components, and mobile push programs more reliable, documented, observable, and scalable.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience working with Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement at large-scale companies.
  • Hands-on experience with Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Data Extensions, SQL Query Activities, and email-send or campaign-execution workflows.
  • Strong SQL skills, including audience qualification, deduplication, suppression, segmentation, and data-validation queries.
  • Experience troubleshooting production workflows involving data ingestion, automations, audience selection, journey logic, and message delivery.
  • Experience translating business requirements into clear technical designs, implementation documentation, and validation plans.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical partners, including marketers, product managers, analysts, and data engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and comfort operating in time-sensitive production environments.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical documentation and status updates.
  • Experience with AMPscript, HTML, CSS, email templates, content blocks, CloudPages, or triggered sends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Preference Center, consent-management, unsubscribe, subscription, or privacy-compliance workflows.
  • Experience supporting mobile push-notification campaigns, including targeting, audience readiness, delivery monitoring, and incident response.
  • Experience operating reusable global email components or localized footer and compliance content.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Data Cloud and its MCE connector.
  • Experience with monitoring, dashboards, logs, alerting, or incident-management platforms such as PagerDuty.
  • Experience supporting high-visibility campaigns, large events, or customer-facing communications with strict execution windows.
  • Familiarity with localization and regional messaging requirements, including content, consent, and footer variations by country or language.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, test, and maintain email and mobile messaging journeys in Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement.
  • Use Journey Builder and Automation Studio to implement customer journeys, triggered communications, scheduled automations, data imports, and operational workflows.
  • Write query-plan-optimized SQL queries with complex joins.
  • Design, manage, and troubleshoot Data Extensions, data models, SQL queries, audience tables, suppression logic, and automation dependencies.
  • Support Preference Center and subscription-management experiences, including consent, unsubscribe processing, compliance controls, localization, and subscriber-state troubleshooting.
  • Own and evolve Global Footer implementations and reusable messaging components across campaigns, regions, and communication types.
  • Support MCE Mobile Push campaigns, including audience targeting, segment qualification, exclusions, message configuration, send readiness, delivery monitoring, and event-week operational coverage.
  • Diagnose issues involving missing or stale source data, empty or incorrect audiences, duplicate-send risk, automation failures, journey entry and exit logic, and delayed or failed sends.
  • Validate audience counts, representative audience members, source-data freshness, exclusions, and send configuration before production launches.
  • Partner with Marketing and Product stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solution documents, configuration plans, implementation steps, test cases, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with upstream data owners, segmentation teams, mobile teams, and platform engineering teams to resolve dependencies and establish escalation paths.
  • Participate in MCE incident response, including triage, investigation, stakeholder communication, escalation, resolution, and follow-up.
  • Participate in a formal on-call rotation, such as PagerDuty, for critical incident response, triage, and resolution outside standard business hours.
  • Improve monitoring, alert quality, dashboards, documentation, operational controls, and incident-prevention practices for messaging systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, reduce operational risk, improve compliance safeguards, and increase the reliability of campaign delivery at scale.
  • Maintain standards for data privacy, consent management, localization, testing, change management, and customer-impacting production work.
