About The Position

Under the direction of the Sr Manager Engineering and Infrastructure, the Systems Engineer III applies IT methods, professional knowledge, and Valleywise Health standards and practices to converged infrastructure. The role designs and manages complex systems throughout their life cycles, including requirements and reliability management, logistics, team coordination, trade-off evaluation, work-process optimization, and risk management. It considers multiple business domains—including clinical management systems, business management systems, and biomedical systems—and frameworks such as architectural and engineering methods, SDLC, quality assurance, ITSM, and project management. The position identifies subtle system-design and performance problems and acts appropriately to improve conditions, seeking advance validation when appropriate. It manages relationships with business partners, peers, and other team members; serves as a primary contact for challenging and complex technical issues; and mentors and develops junior analysts while educating others on best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience that provides the required specialized knowledge and abilities.
  • Five years of progressively responsible structured systems analysis, design, development, or systems engineering-related experience, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of at least two converged domains.
  • Within 18 months in the position, obtain advanced-level certification in at least two converged domains: Compute, Storage, Networking, Data Center, or Infrastructure Services.
  • Hold a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card or submit a completed affidavit at hire; complete the card application within seven days of hire and present the actual card within 90 days of applying.
  • In-depth understanding of computing, storage, networks or telecommunications, and utilities, including the ability to design and implement configurations.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering methods and ITIL, and understanding of Project Management, Financial Management, and Security.
  • Ability to conduct platform studies and performance analyses, recommend changes, and tune systems, servers, and networks for high performance.
  • Ability to lead implementations and deployments; document and maintain hardware-platform policies and procedures; collaborate with vendors and users; and identify trends warranting immediate attention.
  • Ability to guide performance and capacity planning; perform tuning, error tracking, debugging, complex change planning, operational troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to perform disaster-recovery testing, system management for complex development efforts, development-environment setup, and application configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to design complex hardware/platform infrastructure and interfaces, perform complex hardware sizing and troubleshooting, lead hardware resources on projects, and develop high-availability platform designs.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, listening, adaptability, conflict-resolution, cooperation, reliability, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
