Systems Engineer III

Oceaneering•Houston, TX

About The Position

The Systems Engineer, ATCS will support NASA as an Oceaneering teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science II (JETS II) contract, within the Survival and Thermal Systems section of the Engineering Department. The role supports human spaceflight and deep space exploration programs, with a focus on the Atmospheric and Thermal Control System (ATCS) for commercial vehicles and US Deorbit Vehicle (USDV) modules. The position may be hired at any level in the professional career framework, depending on business needs. The engineer reviews system architectures, requirements, designs, test and certification materials, and operational products; evaluates system performance and design changes; and coordinates requirements verification and validation across organizations. The role also develops ATCS verification plans, analysis presentations, heat-load and heat-rejection matrices, integrated module/TCS schematics, and maintains the TCS Concept of Operations. The position involves providing technical status updates, working with international partners and commercial providers, and supporting technical reviews, testing, and spacecraft operations. International travel may be required. Possible straight-time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule, with every other Friday off, are noted. Work is generally in an office environment, though tasks may involve indoor or outdoor work. The work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods, and lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds. Standard office equipment is used. Regular attendance is critical, and the employee may need to work outside the normal schedule or adjust their schedule during peak periods and surge requirements.

  • Experience designing, assembling, testing, certifying, and operating space ATCS systems and components, potentially including pumps and valves, coolant loops, cold plates, heat exchangers, sublimators, and radiators during pre-launch, flight, and post-landing phases.
  • Experience coordinating space ATCS systems requirements verification and validation among multiple organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, including mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, testing, and office software.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
