About The Position

The Systems Engineer provides systems engineering support to the 21st Space Communications Squadron at Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The role supports the engineering, design, installation, transport testing, and documentation of secure and non-secure telephone, video, data, transport, and computer network systems for SSFB organizations, tenant units, and off-site organizations that require connection to DISA and a Base Operational Support (BOS) point of presence. The position is 100% on-site. The engineer determines technical solutions for NIPR, SIPR, telephone, Red Switch, and ISP/OSP backbone cabling systems. Work includes specifying electronic equipment and physical hardware, copper and fiber-optic connectivity, and developing, designing, and implementing site support. Engineering work may involve physical and virtual surveys of communications pathways and facilities, including communications rooms, server farms, telecommunications hubs, power supplies, electrical connections, and distribution points. Surveys may require entry into confined spaces and communications infrastructure areas. The role documents current and planned communications systems and their physical topologies and architectures in the Phoenix Database and CIPS Visualization Component. The engineer also analyzes problems, assesses technical solutions and operational impacts, ensures designs integrate with local, Air Force, and DoD architectures, records infrastructure changes, coordinates with contractors and government agencies, and supports implementation, upgrades, and installation. Testing is limited to determining whether 21 CS (OL-S) communications transport or systems equipment is functional or should be upgraded, replaced, or removed; the Government furnishes testing equipment, processes, and procedures. The position requires the ability to obtain, maintain, and access Top Secret/SCI classified information and U.S. citizenship. A bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field is preferred, with at least seven years of relevant experience or equivalent combined commercial/DoD education and experience. The estimated pay range is $81,800–$85,000, with the final offer dependent on location, skill set, and experience.
