About The Position

As part of Foundation Engineering at Goldman Sachs, the Foundational Infrastructure Cloud Architecture and Engineering team is responsible for designing new cloud patterns and solutions to transform our key infrastructure platforms to be cloud native enabling the use of public cloud services across the firm. You will be working as part of multi-disciplinary team responsible for researching, architecting and building a cutting-edge platform that enable Goldman Sachs teams to deploy and manage services in public cloud safely and securely. We are at an early stage of modernizing our platforms around cloud native principles, and you will be directly contributing to cloud patterns that programmatically enforce safety, security and compliance of services and enables engineers to innovate faster. You will also assist early adopters in their use of these new solutions to ensure their efficacy and efficiency and get feedback that will drive further automation and enhancements. The organization is seeking highly collaborative, creative, and intellectually curious engineers who are passionate about developing and implementing cutting-edge cloud computing solutions. The ideal candidate will thrive in a DevOps culture and contribute to customer-centric product development. They will work closely with cross-functional teams, and will be creative collaborators who evolve, adapt to change and thrive in a fast-paced global environment.

  • Hands‑on familiarity with AWS core services and concepts, including EC2, ECS, VPC, IAM, and foundational networking constructs
  • Solid understanding of Linux-based systems and how applications interact with underlying infrastructure
  • Strong grasp of cloud networking, storage, and security fundamentals, including routing, isolation, and shared services models
  • Experience defining or reviewing system and infrastructure designs in a multi‑team or enterprise environment
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code concepts and tooling, with an emphasis on standards and reuse rather than day‑to‑day operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex architectural topics to diverse technical audiences
  • Comfortable operating in agile and DevOps‑oriented organizations as an architectural partner rather than a primary operator

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hybrid cloud or on‑premises‑to‑AWS migration architectures

  • Contribute to system design discussions and implementations
  • Understand customer workloads and infrastructure components
  • Build and operate secure, reliable, and highly available AWS‑based systems
  • Develop hands‑on experience with production cloud operating models
  • Define and evolve cloud architecture patterns, reference architectures, and design standards for AWS compute, storage, and networking
  • Act as a trusted architectural advisor to application and platform teams, guiding workload design decisions and cloud adoption strategies
  • Partner with engineering, security, and risk stakeholders to ensure cloud architectures meet firm-wide reliability, security, and compliance requirements
  • Review proposed cloud designs and provide architectural guidance on scalability, availability, connectivity, and operational resilience
  • Shape hybrid and cloud networking architectures using AWS services such as VPC, Transit Gateway, and Direct Connect, with a focus on consistency and reuse
  • Provide architectural guidance for migrating workloads from on‑premises environments to AWS using standardized patterns and approved blueprints
  • Influence infrastructure automation by defining infrastructure‑as‑code standards, conventions, and reusable constructs (e.g., AWS CDK, CloudFormation)
